Activities At Oxford
At the Oxford Sea Cadets there are a various number of activities that you can participate in. Here are some examples of them:
- Sailing:
The Unit goes sailing on a regular basis during the spring and summer, at Banbury Cross Sailing Club and Farmoor reservoir. We sail a wide variety of boats, with the aim of achieving RYA qualifications. The unit has two toppers, in addition to being a member of ODSSA, which allows us to use their boats. - Rowing:
Rowing, or pulling as it is called in the corps, is a regular activity during the boating season. Competitions are held at district and area level. For more information please see the National Boatwork site. We have an ASC moored on the river. - Canoeing:
Canoeing courses are held at the unit, with the aim of achieving BCU qualifications. Canoeing is also done regularly on the river with the units two canoes. - Power-Boating:
The corps uses RYA powerboating qualifications. Although we cannot offer these locally, there are courses available. The unit has two powerboats, a Dorey and a Viking, which are kept at the unit.
But theres more. Not only do we do water bourne activities we also have weekends away with other cadets from the different units in the district, the area, even nationally. Ranging from Engineering - Computer Skills. There are even offshore courses on T.S John Jerwood or T.S Royalist which are vessels built especially for the Sea Cadet Corps.
